Sir Alex Ferguson
Clubs – Manchester United
Ferguson took charge at Old Trafford in 1986; however he had to wait till 1990 before picking up his first trophy, the FA Cup. After winning the European Cup Winners Cup and League cups in 1991 and 1992 respectively, he final won the league in the 1992-93 season, with repeated success the following season.
He managed United to success in the 95-96 season as they did the ‘double,’ winning both the premiership and FA Cup. His highlight came in 1999, as Manchester United struck gold winning the infamous ‘treble.’ They won the premiership, FA Cup and Champions league. The following season witnessed Ferguson managing United once again to premiership triumph. United won the league in the 2002-03 season however with Chelsea emerging with new talented players, they have struggled to see similar success in the last few seasons.

Arsene Wenger
Clubs – Arsenal
Wenger joined Arsenal in September 1996 as a relatively unknown man in England. However success was more or less instant with Arsenal as he won the premiership with them in his second season in charge of them. He managed Arsenal to the UEFA cup final in 2000, however they lost on penalties and he was on the losing side to Liverpool in the FA Cup final of 2001. The 2001-02 season was Wengers finest as Arsenal won both the premiership and the FA Cup. He once again managed an FA Cup winning Arsenal side in 2003 as they beat Southampton; however they came 2nd in the premiership. The last occasion that Wenger won the premiership with Arsenal was the 2003-04 season. Wenger and his team suffered heartbreak at end of the 2005-06 season as they lost to Barcelona in the champions league final.

 

Harry Redknapp
Clubs – Bournemouth, West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton

Redknapp became a well known figure in the game when Bournemouth beat Manchester United in an FA Cup match in 1985. Redknapp was appointed manager of West Ham United in the summer of 1994 and certainly did not disappoint. After reaching mid table during his first three seasons with the Hammers, they had a delightful season during 1997/98 as they finished 8th position. He got West ham into Europe during the 1998/99 season as they finished 5th in the premiership. Redknapp was installed manager at Portsmouth in 2002 and guided them into the premiership for the start of the 2003/04 season. After a successful debut season managing Portsmouth in the top flight he moved to Southampton as manager, however he could not help to prevent them from relegation and moved back to Portsmouth during the 2005/06 season and helped them to  a remarkable recovery during the end of the season and they survived in style from relegation.

 

George Graham
Clubs – Arsenal, Leeds, Tottenham
Graham was a favorite at Highbury during his time at the club; he guided them to triumph in the league on two occasions. The first being the 1988-89 season, pipping Liverpool to claim the top spot and the second, winning the league in the 1990-91 season. He was dismissed from Arsenal in February 1995 before moving to manage Leeds United. He helped Leeds finish fifth in the league during the 1997/98 season which secured them a birth in the UEFA Cup. He moved on to Tottenham in 1998 where he managed them for three seasons and guided them to victory in the Worthington Cup in 1999. Graham was sacked as manager of Tottenham in March 2001.

 

Sam Allardyce
Clubs – Blackpool, Notts County, Bolton
Allardyce made history during the 1997-98 season as he guided Notts County to promotion to the second division as they were promoted as early as mid-March which was to be a post war record. After his successful few years at Notts County, he was installed manager of a then first division Bolton side in September 1999. In his first season in charge he led them to the play off’s, however they lost to Ipswich. In his first season he took them to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. In his second season in charge, they won the play off final and he guided them into the premiership going into the 2001-02 season. After a decent debut season in the premiership, Allardyce kept Bolton in the premier league in the 2002-03 season as they came two points clear of the relegation zone by the end of the season. The 2003-04 season was a huge success as Bolton finished 8th in the premiership and reached the league cup final. In the 2004-05 season, Allardyce achieved even greater heights as he led Bolton to 6th position in the premiership.

Jose Mourinho
Clubs – Chelsea
After winning the Champions league during the 2003-04 season with FC Porto of Portugal, he moved to Chelsea at the start of the 2004-05 campaign. In his first season with Chelsea he won the premiership and league cup with them; however they only managed to reach the second round of the champion’s league. The 2005-06 season saw consistency in the Chelsea set up as once again he helped guide them to winning the premiership in his second season at the club.

 

Graeme Souness
Clubs – Liverpool, Blackburn, Newcastle
After five successful years managing Scottish outfit, Glasgow Rangers, Souness was appointed manager of Liverpool. In his time at Merseyside he won the FA Cup in 1992 however their was limited success in the premiership. After an FA Cup defeat against Bristol City in 1994 he quit the job and went into management in Turkey. In 2000 he moved back to England to manage Blackburn, and he earned them promotion back into the premiership and won the league cup with them in 2002. Souness was installed manager of Newcastle in 2004; however injuries cost his side dear throughout his reign. After two seasons of reaching the lower part of the premiership table, his contract was terminated in February 2006.

 

Kenny Dalglish
Clubs – Liverpool, Newcastle, Blackburn
In 1985, Dalglish became player manager of Liverpool and during his debut season as manager he managed them to the ‘double,’ as they won both the league title and FA Cup. He won the title once again in the 1987-88 season. Liverpool missed out on winning the league in 1988-89 in the final few seconds as they lost at home to rivals Arsenal; however he won the FA Cup with them that season. The 1989-90 season was the last time Liverpool won the football league. Dalglish left the managerial post at Liverpool in February 1991. Eight months later he went back into management as the manager of Blackburn Rovers. He had much success with them as he guided them to winning the premiership in 1995. His third big managerial role in England came at Newcastle when he was appointed in January 1997. After a great start at the club, Newcastle deteriorated and he found himself sacked in August 1998.
