2000 – 2001 Season – Great Players

Mark Viduka
Clubs – Leeds United, Middlesbrough
In the summer of 2000, David O’leary bought Viduka for £6 Million from Celtic and he certainly did not disappoint.
In his first season, Viduka was in excellent form for Leeds, scoring 22 goals, 17 of which came in premiership matches. His knack of scoring goals helped Leeds claim 4th position. His most memorable day in premiership football is when Leeds played at home to Liverpool in a thrilling 4-3 encounter as Viduka scored all four goals for Leeds.
Viduka left Leeds in the summer of 2004, notching up a total of 59 goals in his 130 appearances for the club.

 

Marcus Stewart
Clubs – Ipswich Town, Sunderland
The 2000/01 season saw Marcus Stewart emerge as the leading British goal scorer in the premiership. Newly promoted Ipswich were hardly given a chance as the season began, however Stewart’s dash of goals helped Ipswich progress through the season in exhilarating form as they finished fifth which was enough to see them through to the UEFA Cup the following season. He later moved on to Sunderland, scoring 17 goals during the 2004/05 season. In total he has over 200 league goals to his name.

 

Emile Heskey
Clubs – Leicester City, Liverpool, Birmingham
After Heskey’s £11 million move to Liverpool in April 2000, he was in great form for Liverpool the following season, scoring a total of 23 goals, 14 of which were in the premiership. His outstanding performances earned him a place in England’s first team line up. In total, Heskey appeared 222 times for Liverpool scoring 59 goals. Heskey came into the prominence while playing for Leicester City, his career at the club spanned from 1995-2000 as he scored 46 goals for the club.
