2001 – 2002 Season – Great Players

Ruud Van Nistelrooy
Clubs – Manchester United

Van Nistelrooy signed from PSV in the summer of 2001 for a staggering £19 million and he repaid the club back with his exhilarating performances during his debut season at the club. He came second top scorer in the premiership with a total of 23 goals and he also scored 10 goals in the champions league, not bad for a debut season. His incredible performances earned him the honour of PFA player of the year of 2002.
Van Nistlerooy has averaged way over a goal every other match for United, in his 212 appearances at the club he has scored a total of 150 goals.

Fredrik Ljungberg
Clubs – Arsenal
Ljungberg signed for Arsenal in 1998 at the age of 21. His finest form certainly came during the 2001/02 season, as he helped Arsenal win both the Premiership and FA Cup that season. He scored 12 premiership goals from his midfield position, one of the leading midfield premiership goal scorers of that season. His hand in creating goals whilst playing for Arsenal is phenomenal. Going into the 2006/07 season, Ljungberg is Arsenal’s longest serving player at the club since the departure of Dennis Bergkamp.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Clubs – Leeds United, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Charlton
Hasselbaink moved to Chelsea during the 2000/01 season for a whopping £15 Million. However all he seemed to do was constantly score whilst playing for Chelsea. He was the premiership’s leading scorer during the 2000/01 season, he followed his delightful debut season by scoring another 23 goals during the 2001/02 season as he finished up as the league’s second top scorer. His goals helped Chelsea attain 6th position in the premiership during the 2001/02 season.
