2004 – 2005 Season – Great Players

Andy Johnson
Clubs – Birmingham, Crystal Palace, Everton
After a five year spell at Birmingham City between 1997-2002, Johnson only managed to score 8 goals in 83 appearances. However he became an instant success at Selhurst Park, after a decent debut season in front of goal, he proved he was a bargain in the Championship during the 2003-04 season as his 32 goals helped Crystal Palace to promotion. His debut season playing in the premiership was spectacular, despite Crystal Palace being relegated by the end of the season he scored an incredible 21 premiership goals which made him the leading British Scorer in the premier league.

Jermain Defoe
Clubs – West Ham, Tottenham
After four emphatic seasons playing at West ham, Defoe moved to Tottenham for £7 million and the English striker became an instant success at White Hart lane. Despite Defoe missing a large part of the 2004/05 season with injury, he still managed to score an incredible 22 goals during the 2004-05 campaign, with 13 of them coming in the premiership.

Claude Makelele
Clubs – Chelsea
He signed in 2003 from Real Madrid and became an integral part of the Chelsea set up since his transfer. Arguably one of the best midfielders in the premiership he has helped his club keep many clean sheets since his arrival at the club. He won the league with Chelsea during the 2004/05 and 2005/06 seasons. In September 2005 he was selected as one of the players in the FIFPro awards due to his outstanding performances whilst playing football.
