1992–93 Season – Classic Players

 

Eric Cantona
Clubs – Leeds United, Manchester United

Cantona played in England between 1991-97 and he certainly more than made his mark in the game. He was Leeds inspiration to their title success during the 91-92 season and his £1.2 million move to Old Trafford shocked the entire premiership. Cantona was outstanding in his first season at Manchester united as he helped the win the title during the 92-93 season and repeated his outstanding display’s the following season as United won the trophy in 1994.
After being banned from the game for nine months, he returned during the 95-96 season and helped United to win the double; he was also Manchester United’s top scorer that season, scoring 14 goals. Cantona continued his brilliant form during the 96-97 season; however he decided to leave Manchester united at the end of the season on a high.
In total Cantona played for Manchester United on 144 occasions, scoring a highly impressive 64 goals for his club.

 

Dean Holdsworth
Clubs – Brentford, Wimbledon, Bolton, Coventry
Holdsworth played for a number of clubs; however he is most notable for playing for Brentford. The 92/93 season was arguably Dean Holdsworths best performing season, despite Wimbledon reaching only 12th, he notched up a highly impressive 19 goals which came third in the premiership goal scoring charts. He was however overlooked for a place in the England squad.

 

Teddy Sheringham
Clubs – Mill Wall, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Manchester United, Portsmouth, West Ham.

Sheringham really first came into light in football whilst playing his football with Mill Wall. He formed a deadly partnership upfront with Tony Cascarino and in his 213 appearances he scored 92 goals. His best season in front of goal came during the 92/93 campaign. He moved from Forest to Tottenham and scored a total of 21 goals, which won him the first ever premiership golden boot, with a total of 21 goals. He averaged nearly a goal every other match while playing for Spurs between 93-97 with 75 goals. He then moved to Manchester United in search of silver ware. He was an instant success, scoring 62 goals in just over 100 matches and helped them win the league, FA Cup and Champions league.
