1996 – 1997 Season – Great Players

Robbie Fowler
Clubs – Liverpool, Leeds United, Manchester United
Fowler is one of Liverpool’s greatest every strikers. During his first spell at the club between 1992- 2001, he scored a total of 120 goals in 236 appearances, averaging over a goal every 2 matches. He has been honored as the PFA young player of the year on two occasion, 1995 and 1996. After short spells with Leeds and Manchester City he moved back to Liverpool at the beginning of 2006.

Nick Barmby
Clubs – Tottenham, Middlesbrough, Everton. Liverpool, Leeds United
After few highly successful seasons playing for Tottenham, Barmby moved to the Riverside for £5.75 million and did not disappoint. The 1996-97 season saw Bramby move to Everton and he instantly became an important player for the club. He scored 21 goals in 133 games and moved onto local rivals, Liverpool, for £6 million in the summer of 2000.At Liverpool he won the UEFA Cup and League cup however a succession of injuries hampered his progress during his second season at Anfield.

 

Stan Collymore
Clubs – Southend, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Fulham, Leicester City, Bradford City.
During his first season with Nottingham Forest, 1993-94, he was their top scorer with 19 goals and repeated his fine performances the following season as he had another 22 strikes to his name. After scoring 45 goals in 78 matches for Forest he transferred to Liverpool for a then record fee of £8.25 million. He became an instant favorite with the Anfield crowd as he scored 35 goals in 81 matches for them before moving to Aston Villa in the summer of 1997. He then made a hatful of appearances for Fulham and Leicester City, however many felt he never recaptured his form of his earlier years.
